Therapy of tinnitus with binaural continuous pulse sound.

In the treatment of tinnitus, residual inhibition (RI) has been tried. We have modified the Original RI method in the present study.22 cases of bilateral tinnitus, and 66 cases of unilateral tinnitus and limited to impaired hearing ability. The applied sound was an even and continuous pulse tone (90μsec of pulse width, and 75cm distance), and the intensity was 5dB more level than MML and the duration of sound was basically up to 10 minutes. When tinnitus was not masked by 70dB AL, the subject was excluded from the study.1. Improvement was marked in 4 cases (4.3%), moderate in 16 cases (17.0%), fair in 29 cases (30.8%), and poor in 45 cases (47.9%).2. Treatment was more effective in RI-positive subjects.3. There was no correlation with CMI.The present method produces no masking sound and a non-tinnitus condition is created. Even the same intensity of pulse produced and effected similar to that of the conventional method.
