A Case of Microgeodic Disease

In 1970, Maroteaux described five cases of phalangeal microgeodic disease. In 1974, Sugiura reported eight cases as the first paper in Japan. Since the description of Sugiura's report, over eighty cases were raported in our country, In this paper, a case of microgeodic disease is reported. This case is an 11-year-old boy, who had swelling, redness and pain on his left little finger which occurred in February, 1984. On physical examination, the middle segment of the left little finger was swollen, reddened and warm to touch. There was no abnormality in blood analysis, urinalysis and serologic tests. A radiograph of the hands showed abnormal shadow in the middle phalange of the left little finger. A tentative diagnosis of osteomyelitis was made and antibiotics were applied. A week later a radiograph showed typical shadow of microgeodic disease. A month later he was free of symptoms.
