A case of teratoma of the hard palate in a newborn infant with a review of related Japanese literatures of teratoma of the oral and nasopharyngeal region.

A case of teratoma arising from the hard palate in a new-born infant is presented. Histological findings revealed that the present tumor was consisted of two germ-layers, i. e., ecto-and meso-dermal tissues, with several tooth-germs probably in the late bell stage.<BR>We further reviewed 63 cases of teratoma in the oral and nasopharyngeal regions so far reported in Japan, and the following findings were then obtained:<BR>1. This type of tumor occurred predominantly in infants under one year old, and about 75% of the cases examined were female.<BR>2. These tumors occurred most frequently in the nasopharyngeal region and in the palatal region when limited in the oral cavity.<BR>3. Complicated deformity was often observed (21 cases), including cleft lip and palate in most cases
