Heterotopic Allotransplantation of Heart in Adult Dog Treated with Thymectomy and Intralymphatic Administration of 6-Mercaptopurine

(1) Forty-two canine heterotopic allotransplantation of the heart survived more than 4 days.(2) As to the immunosuppressive treatment, thymectomy or intralymphatic injection of 6-MP alone was ineffective for the prolongation of the survival of the transplant.(3) Thymectomy combined with the intralymphatic injection of 6-MP was effective for the prolongation of the survival of the transplanted heart.(4) Thymectomy delayed the recovery of lymphopenia produced by the intralymphatic injection of 6-MP.(5) Imuran administration was effective as an immunosuppressive therapy, but 3 out of 10 died of the drug intoxication.
