AsA (1000ppm) had not a blood pressure lowering effect in A3 strain of SHRSP. The effect of an antihypertensive treatment on death rate at the advanced stage in AsA administrated group was rather greater as compared to controls. Sex differences were clearly observed in death ratios, changes in optic fundi findings and absolute values of major organ weights in both groups in spite of no inter-group differences. These results suggest that AsA (1000ppm) may have preventive effect against side effects of the antihypertensive treatment by hydralazin in SHRSP, although further precise studies based on analyses on the relationship between AsA and sex hormones should be required.
