The fragmentation processes of 1, 2-diethoxyethane have been investigated by using deuterium labelling experiments, mass analyzed ion kinetic energy spectroscopy, and measurements of kinetic energy release and heats of formation. This molecular ion fragments to the ions at m/z 74, m/z 72, and m/z 59 by losses of C2H4O, C2H6O, and C3H7O, respectively, The first two reactions involve the hydrogen migration, These fragmentation mechanisms are estimated by comparison of the experimental results of the title compound with those of reference compounds.
