Anodic Alumina Catalyst Support with High Heat-Resistance for Hydrocarbon Steam Reformers

To improve the heat resistance of the conventional alumite catalyst, a commercial Al/Fe–Cr–Alloy/Al clad base material was used to prepare a plate-type clad alumite support with high resistance.<BR>The pre-heat treatment of the base material at 773 K for 3 h or longer has a significant inhibitory on the alumina layer shelling off, due to the formation of the interfacial alloy diffusion layer. The pore widening treatment at 293 K for 8 h provided an excellent alumite support that was enough strong to suffer the high temperature of 1273 K without the alumina layer shelling off. No alumina layer was found to shell from the alloy layer after 5000 times' repeat electrically heating shock test. Though the BET surface area was decreased with increasing the calcination temperature, the application of this EAHC catalyst at high temperature is still considered to be a promising area at least at 1073 K.
