Genetic Control of Anthocyanin Production in Perilla frutescens

概要

Genetic studies on the pigment formation in the leaf and stem of Perilla frutescens have shown that three independent genes promote the formation of anthocyanins in different parts of the plant; gene A in both the leaf and the stem, gene B in the stem, and gene K in the upper epidermis of the leaf. These three genes do not affect the chemical composition of anthocyanins to be produced, but determine the specific site of anthocyanin production.
