Computaion of Ship Near Wake by Solving Vorticity Transport Equation

Numerical predictions of ship near wake are attempted for two hull forms where the vorticity transport equation is solved on the body-fitted coordinates by the time-marching method. The boundary layer equation is invoked to provide the upstream boundary values of the vorticity distribution. The results give rather good agreements with the measured and the method can be appreciated as one of the near wake presdiction methods. Especially it can be mentioned that the positive uses of the well-established computing methods such as the potential flow and the boundary layer flow calculations have made the final results more reliable and the computing time much less. Through the present computations some numerical techniques are found to be still improved such as the removal of the symmetric restriction, the treatments of singular panels, and so on.
