The purpose of the present experiments on rabbits was to find out what relation, if any, there is between the injection of Tsutsugamushi virus and the agglutinin production of the bac. dysenteriae group, b. proteus X 19 and staphilococcus pyogenes whose characteristics are bacteriologically quite different from those of b. typhosus, b. paratyphosus and vibrio cholerae. The purpose was also to try and confirm the conclusions given in the third Report of the author. The following are the conclusions: 1) The injection of Tsutsugamushi virus raises the normal agglutinating power of the bac. dysenteriae group, but the degree of rise in the normal agglutinating power of these bacilli is very low as compared to the normal agglutinating power of the bac. typhosus group and is lower than that of vibrio cholerae. 2) The degree of rise in the normal agglutinating power of bac. dysenteriae is highest, that of bac. paradysenteriae is next highest and that of bac. metadysenteriae is lowest. 3) The injection of Tsutsugamushi virus does not raise the immune agglutinin production of the bac. dysenteriae group. 4) The injection of Tsutsugamushi virus raises only the normal agglutinating power of bac. proteus X 19. The normal power of agglutination is highest about the 7th day and next highest the 12th day after the injection of the virus. This is almost in accordance with the results of the experiments on the production of agglutinin by the bac. typhosus group and vibrio cholerae. But the degree of rise in the normal agglutinating power of this bacillus is considerably lower when compared to that of the normal agglutinating power of the bac. typhosus group. It is also lower than that of vibrio cholerae. 5) The injection of Tsutsugamushi virus also raises the production of bac. proteus X 19 immune agglutinin, but the degree of rise in the production of this immune agglutinin is much lower. than the degree of rise in the production of the bac. typhosus group immune agglutinin. The period of the high power of bac. X 19 immune agglutinin is shorter than that of the bac. typhosus group. Further the amount of agglutination produced by this bacillus is lower than that of vibrio cholerae. 6) The injection of Tsutsugamushi virus raises considerably the normal agglutinating power of staphilococcus pyogenes as compared to the foregoing. The amount of this rise is higher than that of the normal agglutinating power of vibrio cholerae, but is lower than that of the normal agglutinating power of bac. typhosus and bac. paratyphosus B. 7) The normal agglutinating power, of staphilococcus is highest about the 7th day and next highest the 12th day after the injection of the virus. This isalmost in accordance with the results of the experiments on the production of agglutinin by the bac. typhosus group and vibrio cholerae. 8) The injection of Tsutsugamushi virus does not raise the production of immune agglutinin by staphilococcus pyogenes. 9) The facts above mentioned confirm the conclusion that the special and considerable increase of production of agglutinin by inoculation with Tsutsuga mushi virus can be observed selectively only on bac. typhosus and bac. paratyphosus, as given in the author's third Report.
