The backs of 30 male and 10 female healthy adult rabbits of nearly the same weight were epilated, and excised pieces of the skin from their backs, separated as much as possible from the subcutaneous fatty tissue, were weighed immediatly with a chemical balance. They were then put into an incubator at 80℃ for 3 days, at the end of which they were reweighed. The ratio of the difference in the weight caused by this manipueration to the weight measured immediately after the excision from the backs, expressed as a percentage, was taken as the water content of the skin. The times required for the absorption of wheals caused by injections of 0.2cc. of 0.2N solutions of NaCl, KCl, CaCl_2, KBr, KJ, K_2CO_3, Soerensens buffer solution (pH_2, pH_4, pH_7, pH_<10>), distilled water and 0.2Mol solution of grape suger were also observed. Those tow experiment were performed three times- before the extirpation of endocrine glands as described in the former papers, and three and six weeks after the extirpation respectively. The results were as follaws: 1) After the extirpation of the thyroid glands both the QRZ and the water content of the skin decreased with time. 2) The QRZ decreased 3 weeks after the extirpation of the testicles, While it rose 6 weeks after the extirpation, though less than before the extirpation. The water content increased 3 weeks after the extirpation and decreased 6 weeks after the extirpation, though still greater than before the extirpation. 3) The QRZ showed tendency to decrease gradually after the extirpation of ovaries. The water content decreased 3 weeks after the extirpation and increased 6 weeks after the extirpation, though less than before the extirpation. 4) The QRZ was not much influenced by the extirpation of the supra-renal gland on one side and cutting of a nervus splanchnicus on the other side. The water content seemed to remain unchanged or increased but little. 5) The water content in the skin of female rabbits was greater than that of male rabbits. 6) The order of the QRZ of the skin of rabbits after the injection of various kinds of solutions was not much influenced by the extirpation of any of the endocrine glands mentioned above.
