4, 6-Dicyano-2, 5-dimethoxytropone, a potential dicyano-p-tropoquinone precursor, was prepared from 4, 6-bis (formyloxymethyl)-2, 5-dimethoxytropone. The other cyanotropones prepared by the reaction of 2, 5-dimethoxytropone with trimethylsilyl cyanide were 2-cyano-5-methoxy- and 5-cyano-2-methoxy-tropones.
