B cell alloantigens were investigated in thirty unrelated Japanese patients with psoriasis vulgaris using the Seventh International Histocompatibility Workshop Ia antisera. Forty-five Ia antisera out of 173 (26.0%) reacted with B cells in 23 out of 30 patients (76.6%). These Ia antisera did not react with B cells of the controls. Fourteen patients out of 15 (93.3%) who had either B13, BW17 or BW37 in HLA antigens showed positive reactions with Ia antisera. On the other hand, nine out of 15 patients (60.0%) who had none of the above-mentioned three antigens showed B cell positive reactions. These results suggest that psoriasis vulgaris might have specific B cell alloantigens and can be regarded as an immunogenetic disorder.
