We proposed a method for suppressing arc ignition in mechanical contact devices using a transient current switch and a capacitor. We applied the method to conventional reed switches. For the electric circuit analysis of the make/break operation, we clarified the capacitance of the contacts just after the rupture of the metal bridge using FEM analysis. Using the capacitance, we can estimate the contacting force of electrodes using Coulomb's electrostatic force. We estimated that the force should not be neglected and would cause the contacts to bounce. The estimation was experimentally confirmed using the slowly controlled make/break operation.
