Power-Law I-V Characteristics in the Superconducting Transition Region of Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O Single Crystal under Magnetic Fields

The resistive state in single-crystal Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_y with field applied perpendicular to the c-axis has been studied to investigate the origin of the Lorentz-force-independent dissipation. It was observed that the current-voltage characteristics obey a power law in the higher current density region in our experiment (J≥20 A・cm^<-2>), and that the power-law exponent and the resistivity show an unusual dependence on the magnetic field. These observations strongly suggest that a Kosterlitz-Thouless-type mechanism plays an essential role in the Lorentz-force-independent dissipation.
