Optical and electrooptic properties were studied for some compositions of hot-pressed ceramics of the ternary system Sr(La_<1/2>Nb_<1/2>)O_3-PbZrO_3-PbTiO_3. Optical transmittances were measured as a function of wavelength and temperature. Quadratic electrooptic coefficients R and half-wave voltages V_π were determined at various temperatures. Switching characteristics were also examined. The results obtained were compared with those of electrooptic crystals such as KTaO_3 and KTa_<0.65>Nb_<0.35>O_3.
