Ferroelectricity, Antiferroelectricity and Phase Relations of Pb(A1/2W1/2)O3-PbZrO3 (A=Cd, Mn) Solid Solution Ceramics

In order to elucidate the phase relations of the $x$Pb(A1/2W1/2)O3-($1-x$)PbZrO3 (A=Cd, Mn) system, solid solution ceramics of high density were fabricated in the range of $0\leqq x\leqq 0.2$ by means of the conventional firing process. Measurements of the dielectric constant, $D$-$E$ hysteresis loops and linear thermal expansion were carried out as a function of both temperature and composition. As a result, it was found that Pb(Cd1/2W1/2)O3-PbZrO3 undergoes a phase change from antiferroelectric to paraelectric state, while Pb(Mn1/2W1/2)O3-PbZrO3 undergoes successive phase changes, from the antiferroelectric through the ferroelectric to the paraelectric state. Phase relations of these two systems are discussed on the basis of the average ionic size of (Cd1/2W1/2) and (Mn1/2W1/2) complex ions with respect to the ionic radius of Zr ion and those of the Pb(Fe2/3W1/3)O3-PbZrO3 system previously studied.
