Discrete Energy Levels of Neutrons Trapped in an Absolute Minimum-B Mirror Field

A confinement scheme of polarized neutron gas detached from the material wall is newly proposed. Neutron gas is maintained under the influence of the gravity force in the absolute minimum-B field produced by the combination of two of co-axial ring coils and a quadrupole coil. Quantum mechanical property of confined neutrons is enhanced when terms of the magnetic potential and gravity potential in energy eigenvalue cancel each other. The condition for cancellation requires high precision of magnetic field. Confined neutron energy is of the order of 10neV at most, and the method of producing such a low energy neutrons is discussed.
