In the previous paper, the authors reported that fat in the diet might be important elements among the nutritional requirement of Dermatophagoides farinae. An experiment was made to observe the relation between the population growth of D. farinae and 21 kinds of fat in the diet. Each diet was made from fishmeal and dried yeast powder from which fat was reduced and added one of 21 kinds of fat at the ratio of 5%. About 1,000 mites were inoculated onto 20g of the diet and kept at 25℃ and 60% R. H. The mites in 0.5g of the culture medium were counted once in two weeks by the saturated saline floatation method. 1) Four to 6% was an optimum rate for peanut oil. When peanut oil were added to the non-defatted diet, the population density was found to decrease in proportion to the oil content increased. 2) Higher reproduction of D. farinae was observed in the diet to which one of following fats was added : plant fat : linseed oil, soybean oil, cotton oil, sesame oil, peanut oil and olive oil. animal fat : cod-liver oil, butter, lanorin, and lard. others : lecithin, monoolein, tripalmitin and tristearin. 3) No reproduction of the mites was occured in the diet with following fats : castor oil, coconut oil, lavender oil, triacetin, tributyrin, monolaurin and monostearin. 4) Remarkable reproduction of the mites was occurred in the diet with lecithin. The highest count of the mites was 16,600 in 0.5g of the lecithin medium at 16 weeks. 5) Higher reproduction of the mite was observed in the diet with fats which contained either oleic acid, linolic acid or palmitic acid.
