The lipid extract of Sinularia sp. of soft coral, collected off the coast of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, afforded a new sterol 5,together with three known compounds 2,3 and 4,and the aglycone (1) of 2. The structure of 5 was derived by comparison of the ^1H- and ^<13>C-NMR data with those of 2 and 4 having the same C, D- and A, B-ring substituents, respectively.
