Pentapedilum (Diptera, Chironomidae) from Japan with Description of a New Species

Six known Japanese species of Pentapedilum, that is, P. kizakiense, flavipes, punctipes, sordens, tritum and convexum, and a new species, tigrinum are described. This paper is a short review on the genus Pentapedilum KIEFFER, 1913, from Japan, which comprises seven species including a new one. The terminology on general morphology and the abbreviations of the wing venation used in this paper are based on the articles of EDWARDS (1929) and TOWNES (1954). The coloration described is that of living or freshly preserved alcoholic specimen.
