The hatching of eggs of Ampelodesmus iyonic was found to occur under breeding conditions from the end of May to the beginning of July. The period of egg development varies from 2 to 4 weeks, and eggs hatching in a nest usually spread over about 3 days. Hatchability of eggs in 21 eggs nests was studied. The mean hatchability was 65.3%. The eggs which did not hatch became mouldy, were broken by Nematods and Acaris, and in the most cases, however, they were damaged by moisture. According to the author's observations, hatched larvae usually remain still in a nest for 1 to 4 days. After that, a hole for creeping out is gnawed in the basal side of the nest wall. This work seems to be achieved by only one larva. In a glass jar, it was found that larvae which crept out from a nest were frequently carried away by ants. The whereabouts of those larvae is not yet confirmed, but it is probable that they are carried into the ants' nest and are protected by ants, being confounded among their eggs larvae or pupae. This strange mutual relation seems to be commensalism. There are found 7 larval stadia and an adult stadium in postembryonic development of Ampelodesmus iyonis. These stadia are essentially similar to those of other groups in Palydesmoidea. The morphological characters of each stadium have been studied. A sexual difference in the number of legs arises at the fourth stadium. In natural habitats, the life cycle of this species seems to be completed in three years. In most cases, larvae reach the VI or the VII stadium within the first year, their maturation moults normally occuring through July into September in the second year, and those larvae die after breeding in the third year. Old larvae build their moulting chambers under rotten wood and small tiles or rocks, etc. The moulting chambers are small and rough, and the interior is spread with an arachnoid membrane. A larva which came into the preparatory period lies under the membrane and moves in intermediate period. The first larvae, however, do not build their moulting chambers. The moults of the II-IV stadia have not been observed.
