IgG-F(ab')_2 from normal human serum was incubated and bound to paraformaldehyde fixed bacteria of K. pneumoniae and E. coli. The IgG-F(ab')_2 that bound to the bacteria was each solubilized from the bacteria by glycine-HCl buffer, pH 2.5, and was again reacted with the paraformaldehyde fixed bacteria. It was found that the IgG-F(ab')_2 solubilized from E. coli and K, pneumoniae each showed binding to respective bacteria but not to unrelated bacteria, these findings indicating that the binding of the IgG-F(ab')_2 with bacteria is, if not all, through specific antigen-antibody reaction.
