Some bacteria and yeasts were hydrolyzed by the mycolytic enzymes produced by Coprinus macrorhizus f. microsporus Hongo and C. radians (Desm.) Fr.The enzymes could not hydrolyse lyophilized cells of M. lysodeikticus. All proteases, cellulase and lysozyme tested were ineffective for the hydrolysis of yeasts cells when tested by themselves as well as in combination with the mycolytic enzymes.It was observed that a large quantity of UV absorbed and Ninhydrin positive substances were extracted from the enzyme-treated yeast cells even in a short period of hydrolysis (for instance, for 4 hours). After a treatment with the enzymes for 9 hours, the weight of yeast cells became less than half the original weight and more than 60% of total nitrogen in the cells was solubilized.A general analysis of the solubilized materials showed that they contained large quantities of peptides, polysaccharides that were assumed to originate from yeast glucan and yeast mannan, and some hydrolysates of nucleic acids and that quantities of amino acids and NaCl were much less than those of the acid hydrolysates.When yeast cells were treated with the mycolytic enzymes only to a slight degree, the solubilized total nitrogen from yeast cells by pepsin hydrolysis increased by 2 times the quantity of that from the cells hydrolysed by pepsin only.
