From the results of screening tests on the production of mycolytic enzymes, it was revealed that some Coprinus strains out of the 44 strains of Basidiomycetes tested decomposed heated and lyophilized yeast cells. Two of them, Coprinus macrorhizus F. microsporus Hongo(Z-1) and C. radians (Desm.) Fr.(Z-5), those had the highest mycolytic activity, were cultivated in a Jar Fermenter (30l) and the crude enzymes were prepared from the culture broth.Properties of the crude enzymes thus obtained were investigated.The optimum pH values of these two enzyme preparations for the yeast cell decomposition were almost equivalent and they were about neutral (6.0-8.0).The enzyme produced by C. radians was almost stable within the pH range of 4.0-9.0,but that produced by C. macrorhizus F. microsporus was stable within narrower pH range of 6.5-9.5. These enzymes seemed to be heat labile, because the activity was reduced by half a heat treatment at 55℃ for 10 min.The optimum temperature for the yeast cell decomposition of these enzymes lies around 45℃.
