The effects of uniaxial stress o, on the incommensurate (INC) phase transition ofquartz have been investigated by light scattering spectroscopy. The lq INC phase is in-duced between p and the 3q INC phase and its region becomes wider with the increaseof stress. Anomalies of the central peak in the Rayleigh-Brillouin spectra are observedat three temperatures, corresponding to T,. (/7 to lq INC phase), T,. (lq to 3q INCphase) and T. (3q to (Y phase). Only at 'T,., is the central peak found to have adynamical component.
