Thermal expansion coefficients of Fe -Ni alloys were analyzed by using theGrbeisen equation. The anomalous thermal expansion coefficient term, a.,was calculated by subtracting the lattice vibration tcrm described by Grbeisentheory from the experimental data. The anomalous volume change obtained byintegrating cx. was analyzed in terms of the two-states model of iron, the energyseparation of which is assumed to be a ftmction of the exchange field and tem-perattu'e. The temperature dependence of the energy splitting is in good agreementwith that of the spontaneous magnetization.
