Saturation magnetization, temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility and that of magnetocrystalline anisotropy were measured for Gd-Y alloys. From the value of saturation magnetization, it was estimated that the introduced Y atoms induce the magnetic moment of 0.25μ_B per Y atom. It was also found that the addition of non-magnetic constituent Y causes a change in sign of the anisotropy constant K_<2^0> at 0 K and in the temperature dependence of it. The complexity of the anisotropy of pure Gd is interpreted to be partly due to the contribution of the outer electrons.
