Initiation Front and Annihilation Center of Convection Waves Developing in Spiral Structures of Belousov-Zhabotinsky Reaction

Spiral patterns are representative dissipative structures that can be observed in reactiondiffusion systems strch as Belotrsov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reactions. We found periodic initiationof rnoving structures of convection from the collision line of the fronts of two spiral patternstriggered in a shallow layer of a BZ solution. Tl'?e waves of convection propagated toward therespective centers of the spirals, and xvere annihilated there. The flow direction of the convectionwaves reversed every 15 -16 s. These curious pattern dynamics can be interpreted as a denaonstration of a hierarchical and/or a ftrnctional order in the complex system of reaction, difftrsionand convection.
