Longitudinal Spin Correlation in Spin-1/2 Dimerized XY Chain

The long-distance asymptotic behavior of the longitudinal spin correlation<S 75", )in the ground-state of the spin- l /2 dimerized X Y chain is exactly calculated. The spincorrelation<S 755 ) decays in the exponential law with the correlation length 4 = l /In[(l-F-J)/(l -J)]. Here J (03dfi1) represents the degree of alternation: i.e., thestronger and the weaker spin couplings are expressed as ./(1 fd) and ./(l -d), respec-tively. The correlation length l; smoothly changes from cX) (power decay) to 0 as wemove away from J = 0 (no alternation) to c!? = l (independent sjvin pairs). The nearestneighbor spin correlation is also investigated.
