The relaxation of thermally excited fluctuation in the bilayer lipid membraneof oxidized cholesterol is observed using a quasi-elastic light scattering technique. This fluctuation is identified as a squeezing mode (thickness fluctuation). Themeasurement of the angular dependence of the relaxation time of this modeallows a reasonable determination of the surface tension and the force constantin the bilayer lipid membrane.
