Optucal and thermal bleaching of the V. and V. bands were investigated foradditively- or electrolytically-colored Kl crystals. After L.-light irradiation at 85 K,absorption bands were formed at 430 and 800 nm in company with an increase near thefundamental-absorption edge; while, after the same irradiation at 125 K, the a bandand a band with a peak at about 330 nm were formed simultaneously. Changes inintensities among these bands were caused with subsequent optical or thermal treat-ments; changes in the V. and V. bands were alway:s accompanied. Upon irradiationwith polarized light, the band at about 330 nm exhibited the [1004 anisotropy, whosemaxumum was shifted to 325 nm. On the assumption that cation vacancies areintroduced in halogen-excess crystals, probable modcls of V centers are discussed andthen the photochemical and thermal changes are interpreted by them.
