Photochemical conversion and reorientation of V centers in Kl crystals coloredadditively or electrolytically are studied at temperatures of 19 -140 K. When Vcenters are dissociated at 19 K by irradiation with light in the 270 urn region,Ii-like centers are formed. The Iz -like centers bexin to bleach at about 40 Kforming centers of another type which possess (J IQ) symmetry and give rise toabsorption bands with peaks at 358, 430, 625 and 808 urn. The V. and V3 bandsobserved in quenched crystals are composed of absorption bands due to twokinds of V centers with (110) and (111) symmetries. Besides these centers, other V centers with (100) or near-<( 110) symmetry are also formed by opticalexcitation; after the optical excitation, dipoles of I/centers reorient into proper di-rections at a xiven temr>erature of the samr>Ie. Based on the model of the [3molecule-ton bound to a cation vacancy, possible structures of the four kinds ofV centers are discussed.
