Luminescence Decay of the V-Type Centers in KI Crystals Containing Divalent Cations

In Kl crystals containing Mg", Ca", Sr" or Ba" tons, decay times of theluminescence are studied on the V.. center which is one of the U-type centers pro-duced by X-rays at 140 K. By the L.,.-excitation( - 450 nm), the decay times of theluminescence observed near 1.5 pm were (4 - 7) X 10 ' sec at 70 K, depending uponthe kinds of alkali earth ions. In Kl(Ba"), the decay time apparently decreased withincreasing of temperature. The experimental results of the luminescence are infer-preied in terms of the transition which occurs from an intermediate state to theground state.
