Phase Transition of NH_4Cl_<1-X>Br_X Mixed Crystals

The phase diagram and the characteristics of fi-6, p-7, y-J pjase transitions ofNU 4 Cl) =.Br. mixed crystal system were determined by the dielectric naeasure-ment. It was found that the triple point at .X'=0.06 and the tricritical point at.>:=0.26 existed, and that an increase of both the transition temperature and thethermal hysteresis were observed near the triple point. At the tricritical pointthe order of 73-y transition changed from the first to the second with the increaseof x. An attempt was made to explain qualitatively the anomalous critical phe-nonaena near the triple point and the appearance of the tricritical point by aphenomenological treatment assuming the existence of the resonance couplingthrough the elastic strairn between two disordering modes of pseudospin, one atBrillouin zone center and the other at zone boundary.
