The effect of d.c. electric field on the phase transition of ammonium sulfate was observed by measuring the temperature variation of this dielectric constant. Measurements were made both on the single crystal and on the crystalline powder specimen. It is seen from the results that d.c. electric field shifts the transition temperature of ammonium sulfate either to higher temperature or to lower temperature The amount and the direction of this shift are disturbed according as how the specimen has been treated previously. No effect is observed when the d.c. field is parallel to c-axis. The phase transition can be suppressed or accelerated to some extent by d.c. electric field.
