The infrared transmission and reflection spectra of Co"Cof'0., CoA1.0., ZnFe.0.and MnFe,0. and the single crystal Raman spectra of Co"Cof'0. and CoAl.0. havebeen measured. The frequencies of the transverse (TO) and longitudinal (LO) modes ofthe infrared active species have been obtained (rom the observed reflectivities. The TO-LO splitting supplies a criterion for the tonic character. The lattice dynamical analysisof the optically active vibrations has been made for Co"Co"'0., CoAl.0. andZnFe.0., in which the rigid ion model for the long-range Coulomb potential and thecentral force field for the short-range potential have been used. The obtained short-range potential constants have been discussed, in relation to the bond character.
