Effects of Magnetic Dipolar Interaction on Transient Nutation in a Multi-Level NMR System in Solids:Absence of the Magic-Angle Condition

We have examined the effect of magnetic dipolar interaction on the transientnutation in a multi-level NMR system with unequal level spacings. Theoreticalanalysis shows that, unlike the case of pure Zeeman level systems where levelspacings are equal, no magic-angle condition exists and the nutation decay becomesfaster monotonously with increasing frequency-offset. Experimental verificationswere made on Al nuclei in A1203. A good agreement was obtained betweencalculated and observed second moments in the rotating frame.
