It is shoxvn that the directed traxnsport of Broxvzaian particles can be indtrced by therznal r?ttchetsxvith syrnrnetric, tw'o-state fltrcttrating potentials, contorary to 2111 ea'trlier loelief' that ?tt least threestates are needed f'or the potential to flttctttate if tire potential is syrnrtaetric. It is proved thatthe potential natrst lack the synaautaetry of' glide reflection in order f'or the directed taaovement of'particles to occur in a two-st;tie ratchet. Based on tltis finding, several rnodels with syrtataaetricpotentials are constructed to detaaonstrate the occtrrrence of' the particle floxv.KEYWORDS: ratchet, symmetric potentials, two-state model, glide reflection
