The influence of a circular hole (of radius a) on the viscous shear flow along a thin solid plane wall is investigated on the basis of the Stokes equation. Exact solution is obtained in terms of oblate spheroidal coordinates, which shows that a radial incoming fiow induced upstream with maximum speed along 7rf4 direc-tion to the wall moves almost paraWel to the hole in its neighbourhood and is refiected into a radial outgoing flow. The total flux of this flow is found to be 4aa3/(917), where a is the rate of shear.
