Nuclear Magnetic Resonance of Co^<59> in Ferromagnetic Cobalt Compounds Co_3B and Co_2B

The internal magnetic field and the quadrupole splitting of Co^<59> in ferromagnetic cobalt compounds, Co_3B and Co_2B, were measured. The thermomagnetic curve of Co_2B was also measured. A dispersion type signal and four septet absorption type signals were found in the resonance pattern of Co^<59> in Co_3B, while only a septet absorption type signal was found in Co_2B. The internal magnetic fields of Co^<59> in Co_3B extraporated to 0°K ranged from 137.9KOe to 112.3KOe, while that in Co_2B was 54.5KOe. Comparing with the data on Co_2B, the contributions from the two crystallographic cobalt sites in Co_3B were discussed. The electronic structure of cobalt borides was considered on the basis of the present data and those on other transition metal borides, carbides and nitrides.
