Contributions of the meson exchange currents to the leptonic decays of baryons are investigated within the framework of the quark model based on the same line of thought of our previous papers, in which the exchange magnetic moment and the decays of decuplet baryons are studied. It is shown in the present paper that the meson exchange current among the constituent quarks gives little effects on the leptonic decays of baryons. The main contribution to the axial vector part comes from a pseudoscalar meson exchange current, while a pseudoscalar-vector meson cxchange current contributes to the vector part. Their contributions are, indeed, so small that the "additivity" property of the quarks is shown to be a good approximation. In particular, in the neutron β-decay the exchange currents give only a little contribution and the relation G_A/G_V=-5/3 obtained from the "additivity" assumption cannot be improved.
