We consider initial value problems for the modified Korteweg-de Vries equation byusing the inverse scattering naethod. We find that simple initial potentials produce adouble pole and breather solutions as well as soliLon solutions. We observe a solitonwhich connects distantly two isolated potentials.initial value problem, MKdV equation, inverse scattering method, double polesolution, bu'eather solution, soliton solution, ripple solution, liquid crystal.
