Exchange Magnetic Moments of Baryons and the Quark Model

The contribution of the exchange currents to the magnetic moments of baryons is studied within the framework of the quark model. It is suggested that the exchange current effect may be responsible for the deviation of the SU(6) symmetric predictions from the experimental data. It is shown that the effect shifts the magnetic moments of proton, neutron, Λ and Σ ^+and of the MI transition between proton and N_<33^+> toward a good direction. It is also found that the " additivity " properties of the quarks in the baryon structure are still valid in the electromagnetic interaction even in the presence of the exchange currents, because their contributions are not very large.
