A Chiral Bag Study of Quark Matter Confined in a Slab with Surrounding Pion Field : Particles and Fields

In chiral bag approach we study a schematic model of quark matter confined in a single layer (Slab) and surrounded by π^0 field, in a nonperturbative and exactly solvable way. This model describes a situation, where two-dimensional quark matter appears as one block of the alternating layer spin-flavor structure previously studied and the asymptotically damping pion field appears as an ingredient of the finiteness in one dimension. We show the dependence of the quark eigenvalues on layer thickness and the equivalence of energy-extremum conditions to the equations of axial-vector current conservation and pressure balance. In addition, the role of the one-gluon-exchange contribution to restore stability of the system is briefly discussed. Finally it is shown that the two-dimensional quark matter confined in a single layer tends to the three-dimensional uniform quark matter as the layer thickness and the baryon number increase under the condition of constant baryon density.
