Particle Widths of Excited States in the ^9_ΛBe Hypernucleus : Nuclear Physics

A three-channel coupled scattering problem is solved to study the energy positions and widths of the peaks in the excitation spectra of the forward ^9Be(K^-, π^-)^9_ΛBe reaction. The channels included are ^5_ΛHe+α, Λ+^8Be(0^+) and Λ+^8Be(2^+), with ^5_ΛHe and ^8Be represented by the α+Λ and α+α cluster configurations, respectively. We find two resonance states: The L^π=1^-_2 state corresponds to the middle peak in the observed (K^-, π^-) cross sections, and its energy position and width are in good agreement with the experimental values. The L^π=1^-_1 state has not been seen experimentally, but it is expected to be observed if the coincidence experiments such as the ^9Be(K^-, π^-α)^5_ΛHe reaction are carried out in future.
