Nonlinear Theory of Sound Waves near Critical Points. II : Periodic Spinodal Decomposition in Systems with Nonconserved Order Parameter

By application of periodic forces such as strong sound waves systems near critical points can be driven into unstable states periodically, resulting in enhancement of long wavelength critical fluctuations. The distribution functional of these fluctuations is calculated for a one-component system with nonconserved order parameter using ideas by Suzuki and by Kawasaki, Yalabik and Gunton. Effects of nonlinear couplings among the fluctuations are appropriately taken into account, which serve to limit the growth of the fluctuations. The pair correlation function of these fluctuations is also calculated in the disordered phase.
