By introducing the auxiliary fields and the indefinite metric Hilbert space, the canonical quantization of the massless and massive Majorana spin 3/2 field is carried out in general covariant gauges. As a clue to get the four-dimensional anticommutation relations among the field quantities, the generalized method of Dirac's new Poisson bracket for Fermion fields is extensively used. It is shown that there exists a general gauge under which the massive case connects smoothly with the massless one. As a special case of this gauge, the quantization of massless field is presented in the gauge where both ∂^nΨ_μ=0 and r^μΨ_μ=0 are satisfied. The massless field is also quantized in a gauge where the four-dimensional anticommutation relation contains no dipole ghost and has a simple form by taking the gauge parameter suitably.
