The Effects of Electro-acupuncture on Blood Gas and Plasma Electrolytes in Rabbits

• The effects of electro-acupuncture stimulations on blood gas and electrolytes were examind in eight rabbits weighing 2.8-4.0kg under adequate artificial ventilation. Acupuncture needles were inserted in the selected point (LI4 : Hegu, ST36 : Zusanli) and the electric stimulation (12-14VP-P, 3HZ) was delivered for 10 minutes by Oriental Pulse Mixed (Oriental Co. LTD). The following results were obtained. Blood gas analysis showed no significant change except a slight down of base excess. Plasma electrolytes (Na, K, CI, Mg, Ca) showed no significant change, but significant increase in ionized calcium was observed after electric acupuncture stimulations.
