A statistical analysis was made on anesthetized cases that were operated on at the Kinki University Hospital in the period from 1975 to 1985. The statistics for each surgical department, age, sex and anesthetic techniques were investigated with computer. The number of cases increased each year and the total number of cases in 1985 was 5,467. In the middle age group, there were more female cases than male cases. On the other hand, in children, there were more male cases than female cases. The case of anesthesia in patients of over 70 years of age has shown an increase in recent years. Among the techniques of anesthesia, the percentage of inhaled anesthesia has increased, while that of intravenous anesthesia has decreased. The percentage of halothane anesthesia has decreased and was replaced by enflurane. For intravenous anesthesia, modified NLA has decreased and ketamine is less used. Of the regional anesthetic techniques, the use of spinal anesthesia has decreased slightly, while that of epidural anesthesia has increased. In particular, epidural anesthesia has been used as an adjunct to general anesthesia.
